MARYVILLE, Mo. –C.A. Bristow, 86, Maryville, an educator for 49 years, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 1990, at St. Joseph Hospital. Born in Missouri, Mr. Bristow had been a resident of Maryville for the past 47 years. He graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia. In 1964, he retired as a high school principal after 49 years in education.
He was with the Maryville schools for 29 years. Mr. Bristow was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Maryville, the Maryville Host Lions Club, Retired Teacher’s Association and Phi Delta Kappa. In 1928, he married the former Kathryn M. Johns in Grand Island, Neb.
She survives at home. Mr. Bristow was preceded in death by a sister. Additional survivors: a daughter, Mary L. Suess of Kansas City, Mo.; three brothers, Hal of Kansas City, Kan., Novie of Jetmore, Kan., and Hank of Denver, Colo.; three sisters, Flossie Wilson, Margarite Bristow and Alice Otto, all of Kansas City, Mo.; and three grandchildren.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, First United Methodist Church, Maryville. Burial: Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville. Visitation: any time, at the funeral home.
Note: Chester Arthur Bristow was born in Kidder, Missouri in Caldwell County He is buried at Memorial Garden in Maryville.
C. A. Bristow Retiring After 49 Years of Service to Education

C. A. Bristow, Maryville, who has been principal of the North Andrew R-VI Elementary School for the past two years, retired at the close of this term. He was honored by the North Andrew R-VI staff and faculty with a dinner at the Hitching Post Restaurant, Maryville.
Larry Price, superintendent of the school board, presented him with a plaque on behalf of the school board membership. Bristow began his career in 1925 as a country school teacher in Kerr.
In 1934, Bristow received his Bachelor of Science degree from Northwest State University, and in 1942 received his Master’s in Education from the University of Missouri at Columbia. Since that time, he has kept up with the current trends and methods in education through graduate work at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, MSU and the University of Arkansas at Conway.
In addition to his two years at North Andrew, Bristow has been associated with schools at Harmony, Savannah, Nodaway-Holt R-VII, Hamilton, Altamont, Utica, and Kidder, and was principal of Maryville R-II High School for 21 years.
Bristow has been active in many educational organizations over the years. Some of these include Elementary Principals of Missouri, Northwest District Principals. National Association of Principals, Audio- Visual Educators Association, American Association of School Supervisors, and Phi Delta Kappa. He lives in Maryville with his wife, Kathryn, and they have a daughter, Marylee, now Mrs. Richard Suess.
