The only tornado to have hit a tornado court was in September 1973 (it might have been tornadic winds), which hit the Pine Ridge Trailer Court at 16th and North College Road (then called Truman Road). A woman was inside a trailer when it was toppled.
Though not officially termed a tornado, winds with the force of a small twister hit Maryville early Wednesday morning. The winds, however, confined their damage to one mobile home in Pine Ridge Mobile Home Park, Truman Road. Dean Nelson’s mobile home was overturned, and part of it was torn away. Debris was scattered around the lot, and a trash bin was demolished, but the other mobile homes in the area were undamaged. Mrs. Nelson suffered bruises from being tossed around in the mobile home. Lightning struck the Light & Power substation at Ravenwood about 8 p.m. Tuesday, affecting power in that area and in the Tri-C area. The damage was repaired there, along with some scattered power outages in the Maryville area. United Telephone reported scattered damage to phone lines, but not severe enough to prevent quick repair.
