The name Byrl is primarily an alternative spelling of the name Beryl , functioning as a unisex given name and a rare surname. Its origins branch into three distinct roots: [1, 2, 3, 4]

  • Greek: Derives from beryllos, the ancient word for the pale green, blue-green, or yellow-green precious gemstone (emerald/aquamarine).
  • Yiddish/Hebrew: Used in Jewish naming traditions, it serves as a pet form of the male personal name Ber, which means “bear”.
  • English Surname: As a last name, it originates from the Old English byrle (referring to a hill or mound) or a variant of the German habitational name Behrle. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
