February R. Scott Marriott, 69, St. Joseph, passed away at his home Thursday, December 23, 2010, after a very brief illness. He was surrounded by love with his family at his side.

Scott received a football and diving scholarship to North Central College in Naperville, Ill.
He was a finalist in the 1960 NCAA Olympic diving trials, barely missing the Olympics by a fraction of a point. Scott transferred to NWMSU in 1961, where he met the love of his life, Jan, also a student at Northwest. He was a Northwest swim team member and a member of the Sig Tau Fraternity. He remained a proud Bearcat for the rest of his life. Scott and Jan were married in Weston, Mo., on November 2, 1963.
His teaching and coaching career led them to Westboro, Oregon, Maryville and Lafayette High Schools. At Lafayette, they participated in six state playoff appearances. Scott was known for taking losing teams and turning them into winners, and he was inducted into the Missouri High School Football Hall of Fame in 1996.
